As part of Small Business Week and Poverty and Homelessness Accountability Week (PHAW), the Yukon Anti-Poverty Coalition is recognizing and thanking the local businesses that have helped make our programming possible throughout YAPC’s 30 years of operation.
Held every October since 2005, PHAW raises awareness and promotes action to end poverty and homelessness in the Yukon. It has grown into a true community effort, with activities co- created by organizations, individuals, businesses, churches, schools, and the media.
Small businesses have always been part of that effort. Through donations, discounts, services, space, and spreading the word, they’ve helped YAPC keep our programs and events running and reach more people across the Yukon.
Over the next few weeks, the Yukon Anti-Poverty Coalition will be recognizing the following businesses and their owners with a gift and a heartfelt Thank You.
Air North, Changing Gear, Coast Mountain Sports, Design Station, Frostbite Bookkeeping Service, G&P Distributing, GBP Creative, Kobayashi/Zedda, Hair on Wheels, Jane of Some, Lumel Studios, Meg’s Hair Design, Northstar Mini Storage, RavenTree Coaching, Tanya Handley, Save On Foods, Selectricity Productions, Titanium Storage, Well Read Books, What’s Up Yukon, Wykes Independent Grocer and the Yukon Grain Farm.
We also want to honour some businesses and their owners that are no longer in operation but whose generosity left a lasting mark including Alpine Bakery, And-Again Consignment, Sequels Consignment Boutique, and Hair Sensations.
“Real progress happens when governments, businesses, and community work together,” says YAPC Treasurer, Helen Slama. “We encourage community members to show some love to the local businesses that support our community every day of the year!”
