The Reaching Home Distinctions-based stream provides dedicated funding to address the specific and unique needs of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis individuals experiencing or at-risk of homelessness.
In the Yukon, this funding is administered by the Yukon Anti-Poverty Coalition (YAPC) and serves Liard First Nation, Ross River Dena Council, and White River First Nation. Eligibility extends to these First Nations, prioritizing local leadership and collaboration to set funding allocation and project priorities.
The eligible activities under the Reaching Home Distinctions-Based Funding program include:
- Housing Services: Supporting individuals and families in accessing, transitioning to, and maintaining permanent housing.
- Prevention and Shelter Diversion: Initiatives to prevent homelessness, such as support for at-risk individuals and mediation services to avoid eviction.
- Client Support Services: Providing essential supports, such as life skills development, mental health and addiction services, cultural programming, and employment readiness.
- Capital Investments: Developing, renovating, or expanding affordable and supportive housing, as well as emergency shelters.
- Coordination and Data Collection: Enhancing partnerships and service coordination, and improving the collection and use of data to address homelessness effectively.
