Whitehorse, Yukon — As the 2025 federal election day approaches, the Yukon Anti-Poverty Coalition (YAPC) is inviting the public to engage with local candidates at a Lunch & Learn All Candidates' Event on Thursday, April 10 from 12:00–1:15 PM at the Whitehorse Public Library.
“This is an important opportunity for Yukoners to hear directly from candidates on how they and their parties plan to tackle the affordability crisis we’re facing—not just here in the North, but across the country,” says Kristina Craig, Executive Director of YAPC. “Affordability is about more than just cost—it’s about dignity, opportunity, and ensuring that everyone can thrive.”
The Lunch & Learn will include short presentations from candidates, followed by a community Q&A session. Yukoners are encouraged to bring a bag lunch; coffee and tea will be provided.
YAPC is also launching its Actions for Affordability campaign today on social media. The campaign provides voters with background information and key questions about improving affordability when speaking with candidates.
“Change doesn’t just happen in Ottawa—it begins at home, with informed conversations and strong community voices,” says Keitha Clark, YAPC Project Coordinator. “We hope Yukoners will use this campaign to keep affordability—and its impact on poverty elimination—front and centre throughout the election.”
The Actions for Affordability campaign highlights six key areas: housing, food security, income supports, health, fair taxation, and representational data. Questions for candidates draw on national and local research and support the perspectives of advocacy organizations such as the National Advisory Council on Poverty, Campaign 2000, Citizens for Public Justice, and theYukon Food Security Network.
