The Reaching Home team is excited to be accepting applications for funding for projects to prevent or reduce inflows into homelessness in the Yukon over the next two fiscal years – 2022/23 and 2023/24. Funding is available for activities under the following categories: Housing Services; Prevention and Shelter Diversion; Health and Medical Services; Client Support Services; Capital Investments and Coordination of Resources and Data Collection. Please visit https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-development/programs/homelessness/directives.html for more information on the funding categories.
Funded by the Government of Canada’s Reaching Home Program, funding is aimed to prevent and reduce homelessness across Canada. In the Yukon, this funding is administered by the Yukon Anti- Poverty Coalition, the territory’s designated Community Entity (CE) which is guided by a Community Advisory Board (CAB).
The most recent Point in Time Count indicated that 85% of people experiencing homelessness in Whitehorse identify as indigenous. In the spirit of reconciliation, and as the CAB works to decolonize its internal processes, this Call for Proposals highlights a preference for projects proposed by First Nations governments, indigenous organizations and organizations that demonstrate strong partnerships with First Nations entities.
“We are really excited to be using a reconciliation lens in the approach to this Call for Proposals,” says Miasha Albisser, Reaching Home Program Officer. “It’s a change that we hope will help ensure that First Nations voices and leaders are at the centre of the work, and will strengthen collaboration and coordination amongst service and housing providers.”
