Engaging Candidates, Influencing Change

With Poverty and Homelessness Action Week upon us, the Yukon Anti-Poverty Coalition and the Voices Influencing Change graduates are encouraging community members to ask municipal candidates about the topics that matter to those in our community whose voices are not always heard.

  • In light of the fact that building housing is not in the city’s mandate, yet it is the top priority of citizens, how will you partner, resource and advocate for an increase in a variety of housing stock?
  • What do you see as the City’s next step in implementing the Safe at Home Plan to End and prevent Homelessness in Whitehorse?
  • Given recent concerns raised about services available in Whitehorse, what can the City do to ensure that vulnerable people have a safe, warm and welcoming place to stay this winter?
  • What improvements to our current transit system would you advocate for? Do you agree with implementing a low income bus/facility pass?
  • What are your thoughts on the accessibility and affordability of recreation in our community and how would you improve it?
  • Do you see a need for an increase in safe crosswalks in the city? Where would you situate them?
  • Will you make it a priority to build public, gender inclusive washrooms that are available 24/7 for all residents?
