Poverty & Some of Its Impacts - A talk with Dr. Geoff Bateson on Wednesday, September 17th at 7pm.
Thanks to Yukon College, Health and Social Services and George Green, we are sponsoring a talk by Dr. Geoff Bateson from the UK next Wednesday, September 17th at 7 pm at the High Country Inn. Admission is free and all are welcome.
Dr. Geoff Bateson MBE, is a UK-based former teacher and principal, who believes that the work of improving literacy and numeracy cannot be isolated from issues of poverty, neighbourhood renewal, and community well-being.
His 'whole systems' approach to literacy and numeracy levels in the UK has successfully changed how things are done and delivered better life chances for children, young people and families.
Geoff's talk will cover how recent economic trends may be helping or hindering people's life chances, how poverty is measured versus the reality in people's lives and what can be done locally to reduce the number of children growing up in poverty.
