Poverty and Homelessness Action Week (PHAW)

Held every October, PHAW is designed to raise awareness and promote action to end poverty and homelessness in the Yukon. Started in 2005, PHAW has grown to include activities sponsored by a wide cross section of organizations, individuals, businesses, churches, schools and the media.

PHAW 2017 is next week, October 16 - 22. Click here to view our 2017 calendar of events.

2017’s theme is ‘Sharing Stories’. YAPC wants to highlight the many ways that stories can be used to debunk myths about poverty and also how everyone in our community has a story to tell. When taken seriously and truly listened to, each of our stories can form the foundation of a stronger community. This in turn leads to real solutions and honest partnerships that will break the cycles of poverty.

Events this year include Whitehorse Connects, a release of YAPC’s Food Cost Monitoring Project results, a free community meal and living wage 101 and 2 free movie screenings of ‘A Place at the Table’ thanks to Blood Ties Four Directions Centre.
